Where Holiday Decor Lives the Other Eleven Months

Holiday decor is Sentimental and Signal at the same time, which is why it grows. Each year adds something and nothing leaves. By the third year the attic is a zone with no design.

Designation solves it. Decide where decor lives for the eleven months it is not out, and how much room it gets. The container is the limit. If a new piece does not fit, something in the box goes.

Set it up before the season starts

One bin per season. Clear, labeled on the side that faces out, and stored where you can reach it without moving anything else.

Review as you unpack. Anything broken, unused, or no longer part of the season goes to Static. Do this while the box is open, not after the tree is up.

Keep a short list. Note what you wished you had and what you never touched, and use it when you pack away.

The annual decor review is a small declutter attached to a job you were already doing. It takes minutes per box and makes the next year's setup faster.
