The Autumn Changeover: What to Recalibrate at the Equinox
Updated: Oct 17
The autumn equinox lands around September 22, and the household changes with it. Earlier dark, heavier clothes, a full school and activity calendar. A Seasonal Calibration is the short pass that resets the home to match, and it is faster than it sounds because you are not starting over.
Four checks, one afternoon
Entry. Bring coats, boots, and umbrellas to the front. Move sandals and beach gear to the back of the closet or to storage.
Closet. Swap the first layer of the season. Pull anything that no longer fits its role and set it aside for release.
Light and safety. Replace bulbs in the spaces that go dark first. Check smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
Calendar. Ask which zone broke last October and whether it is still set up the same way.
Give the whole calibration 90 minutes to 2.5 hours. The point is not to finish the season's work in one sitting. It is to fix the two or three places where the house will otherwise fight you until spring.
Reply and tell me: what is the first thing you reach for when the weather turns?
