Maintenance Is Not One Person's Job
Updated: Oct 17
Most homes have a person who notices. The one who knows the filter needs changing, the permission slip is due, and the milk is almost gone. That noticing is work, and it is invisible until it stops.
The Ohm.Haus Method treats this as a design problem. Every undesignated task is an open loop running in someone's working memory. Moving the loop out of one head and onto a page is the first step of the fix.
Three steps
Write it down. List the recurring household tasks, not the projects. Weekly is the right level to start.
Give each an owner. A name beside every task, chosen once, not renegotiated every week.
Make the job visible. A shared list in the same place every week, so the owner does not depend on being reminded.
The goal is not equal minutes. It is that no task depends on someone remembering to remember. Help is a legitimate method, whether that means a partner, children at their level, or a paid professional for the parts that need skill.
Reply and tell me: which task only one person knows about in your home?
